Pennie was a guest at our emergency popup shelter earlier this year. A family tragedy struck and she had to travel to Florida bury her son. She eventually returned to Memphis but continued to wrestle with her situation. Fortunately, Hub staff members Roman and Mak were able to help her return to our emergency shelter until the Hub Hotel opened. The Hub Hotel team then worked on her case with Julian Burgess of Case Management, Inc to get her qualified and housed at Door of Hope—all in the midst of a global pandemic.

Work Local is Back!

Work Local re-launched this summer after being on hiatus for several months due to COVID. The employment program offers Hub clients the opportunity to gain experience and make a fair wage while reducing blight in Memphis.

New precautions are in place to keep our staff and program participants healthy, including mask requirements, increased hand sanitization, and pre-shift symptom surveys.

Coming Soon: The Day Plaza

Phase One of the Day Plaza at 590 Washington is nearing completion. Once it’s open, the Day Plaza will be a safe place for people experiencing homelessness to connect with Hub staff and features public restrooms, free lockers for clients’ belongings, and mail services. The Day Plaza is a significant piece of The Hospitality Hub‘s expanded operations and emergency shelter that will break ground later this year. Stay tuned!
