Letters to the HUB

“Because of you, (and my determination) I have been able to acquire my necessary documents; receive mail; maintain communication with family via phone and computer; and obtain employment with the Memphis Cook Convention Center. Among the things listed above that were provided physically -- you also gave me something much more -- HOPE.”

Dear Ms. Beatrice and Mr. David,

In regards to: Employment/Assistance/Another Chance

From my initial visit to the HUB, you two, as well as the volunteers, provided me with so much more than assistance with filling out paperwork. Because of you, (and my determination) I have been able to acquire my necessary documents; receive mail; maintain communication with family via phone and computer; and obtain employment with the Memphis Cook Convention Center. Among the things listed above that were provided physically -- you also gave me something much more -- HOPE.

Upon my arrival at the HUB, I was filled with a sense of disparity, depression, hopelessness and just shear fear. During intake, the volunteer that helped me was very patient and understanding of my circumstances, making me feel as though things I needed to do could be accomplished -- just one step at a time. And since then, that is my approach to life; I will and can accomplish all, one step at a time.

When first entering the program, I had nothing, but was and still am determined to obtain and achieve all goals in mind. In February 2010, I was referred to the Memphis Cook Convention Center, which is where I have been employed ever since. The HUB and the Cook have instilled a sense of hope in me that was missing.

I originally came to Memphis, TN in August 2009. I entered the HUB program in November of 2009 when I was kicked out of my abusive relationship and started my life over in a shelter. Everyone in life has a story to be told, lessons to be learned, and their own path to find and follow.

The words "thank you" do not cover the appreciation I have for all persons affiliated with the HUB and the Cook. I am a soon-to-be-twenty-nine-year-old who has been given another opportunity at life.

With sincere appreciation and gratitude,

Amy
